Since January 2010, he has been living with heart failure, transforming his personal struggle into a powerful mission. His experience with the condition inspired him to establish the Pumping Marvellous Foundation, the UK's only patient-led heart failure charity.
Nick's leadership has propelled the Pumping Marvellous Foundation to provide patient-centred solutions, leveraging his profound understanding of heart failure and the healthcare system. His dedication has led to Nick’s place on the 2025 Kings New Year Honours List, an Honorary Doctorate from Glasgow Caledonian University, and recognition as an HSJ winner.
